Scruffs Workwear for Women: Try on and First Impressions

Popular workwear manufacturer, Scruffs, has just launched a range for women. Having waited a long time for these, I was excited when my order arrived. There are five items in the clothing range, as well as safety boots and trainers. I chose four pieces to try out.

Women's Trade T-Shirt

£9.96 ex VAT | £11.95 inc VAT

The t-shirt is cut long in the body and stays tucked in even when you’re reaching into the back of your van, stretching, or bending down. Proportionally I am high-waisted with a long body, and this is a good length even on me. Personally, I wish it was shaped at the waist as it is quite baggy around the waist, but the material feels nice and thick and feels like it will last.

It also has an anti-bacterial finish, which is good because the washing instructions are for 30 degrees. I wish I’d bought a size down, but that’s my personal preference for fit.

Women’s Trade Bodywarmer

£30.79 | £36.95 inc VAT

A smart-looking and practical item of workwear, I know I’ll get a lot of use out of this one. With Instatherm padding on the front and back, it will help to keep you warm on the job. Externally it has zipped pockets, excellent for your van key or perhaps change for parking as they won’t fall out.

There are two inside pockets, including one for your mobile with a Velcro flap, which is a decent size and fits my Samsung Note 10 without any issue. It curves in on the sides, so the fit is snug but flexible, and it looks awesome.

Women’s Trade Softshell Jacket

£34.96 ex VAT | £41.95 inc VAT

I wanted a size 8 but it was out of stock, so I went with the 10. I think I’d have preferred the 8, but the bigger size means I can easily layer up with the body warmer and wear a long-sleeved fleece top underneath – and still be able to move. It is water-resistant, so it’s ideal for those foggy and drizzly winter days.

Again, the external pockets are zipped, so it keeps your bits and pieces safe, and they’re roomy too. There are three internal pockets, all a really good size. I love the high collar and generous arm length, as I have long arms and many winter tops and jackets are cut just that bit too short - not what you want in the cold weather.

Women’s Trade Flex Holster Trousers

£34.96 ex VAT | £41.95 inc VAT

The Scruffs website is let down by a lack of a decent size guide and, despite offering the trousers in Short, Regular, or Long lengths, there’s no indication as to what these lengths are. I bought the 10 Regular, which has a 30-inch inside leg.

Similar to the men’s trousers and made from the same Cordura fabric, the women’s version incorporates an elasticated waist and fits really well – as I’m very high-waisted I was surprised that these are so comfortable.

They are advertised as slim fit but quite loose on my legs, though I prefer this as I don’t like a tight fit when wearing knee pads. There are an amazing number of pockets, some with zips, some with Velcro, and these trousers also have holster pockets. There is loads of room for carrying your tools, mobile phone, and keys. These didn’t come with a belt, which is a shame, as it would have finished off the look nicely.

All in all, this is a surprisingly comfortable range and I’m looking forward to putting them to the test.

The discreet logos mean you’re not plastered in branding, so if you have your own branded t-shirts and tops, adding anything from this range won’t compete with it.

As well as work, these will be so useful for weekend jobs around the house and garden, and I can see myself throwing the jacket and body warmer on to walk the dog. Please let me know in the comments below if you’ve bought anything from the range yet, or if they’re on your wish list.
